$20,000...? That's way to much to be spending on a teens first car! I don't care how much money you have. Most accidents driver's have are in the first two years of having a license(this is an actul fact) Let them get a few dents and them buy them a nicer car! My dads always been wealthy. When I was learning to drive he got me a 1977 diesel MB. I was annoyed at the time, but got to take out my inexperience on it. It also tought me a lot about an engine! Their heavy cars too, their really safe!

Here are some GOOD cars you can get for $500.00 - $5,000.00.

The 1982 Pontiac Phoenix. (Which is what I'm driving now, and it's awesome!)

The 1965 Ford Falcon. (Although the '66, 63, 62, and 60 models are really neat too.)

The 1964 Ford Mustang.

The 1970 Ford Mustang

The 1975 Pontiac Firebird.

The 1956 Ford Thunderbird

The nice thing about these models is that they're good for new drivers because they're not really huge (so they're easy to steer!), and don't have a bazillion special features or annoying alarms to bug you!

They also won't cost you as much as a brand new 2013 car... especially if you get one unrestored.

(PS: 20 thousand is way to much to spend on anything other than a Rolls Royce, for heaven's sake!)

That's a very generous budget. If you have it to spend, I would look for a certified used sedan. The Toyota Corolla is my default top choice, its incredibly reliable, inexpensive to operate, and very forgiving of new drivers. However, if I were you, I'd look for an older model mid-size car. The Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are the best choices, with the Chevy Malibu, Nissan Altima, and Ford Fusion also strong contenders. None of them are a bad car. A mid-sizer with a 4 cylinder wraps your teen in a lot of car, in an accident, the heavier the car, the safer, while not being too powerful for your teen to handle. The driving dynamic on a sedan is very forgiving with a low rollover chance. Your teen may not wreck, but they will inevitably beat and bang it, so I wouldn't waste money on a really nice car to start with. If you want to splurge, buy a cheaper "starter" car and then buy the nicer car at graduation.

Way too high for a teen.

Go to craigslist, used cars and trucks, by owner, 5000 MAX

Buy him a good mercedes if you can find one, have your mechanic inspect any vehicle before purchase

Maybe Infinity I30 like a 1996-2000

Japanese cars are good-Subaru is the best. Maybe a Forester
