personnally i would take either the acura or toyota, they are both very reliable and hold the value of the car really well and are great on gas....so good luck in your travels....remember no F.O.R.D.

It is more about horses for courses than which is best. All the cars in this category are cramped and uncomfortable, but usually the low spec small engine versions are more comfortable because they have soft springs and dont have low profile tyres. Big question is service history, with a Cambelt change being £ 400 at some garages that can blow a big hole in your budget and if it breaks, well it aint going to be worth repairing. So you want 50 000 miles with the belt changed ideally, remember its usually 5 or 6 years a well as mileage, so a 6 year old 10 000 miler probably needs a belt, useful bargaining tool. The Ford has the big advantage that most mechanics know about them and some older ones dont even have a cambelt, using a rattly old pushrod engine but these are probably too old for you to consider. The classic pre BMW Mini was the last of the cheap to maintain small cars with no cambelt etc but these are almost collectors items now especially the last ones. Diesels in your price range will be pretty nasty, narrow power band, poor starters etc but more economical, so if you "need" this size of car it really is a case of comparing individual cars rather than generalising, do you have a friend what knows about motors? The bloke in the pub with dirt under his fingernails and grubby wrists where his goves dont reach ,what whiffs of oil is probably the best bloke to have as a friend at this time. If you dont nescessarily have to buy this size of car look at a Rover 45 Diesel, cheap at the moment. Dont get a (K series) petrol though.

You can't go wrong with the Acura integra....Plus it is also the coolest car on your list.



The Integra is genetically a honda civic. These cars are notoriously great cars with good gas mileage and never break.

i own a repair shop ,and one of the best cars on the road today is a Nissan sentra,they are one of the most reliable ones i know of,and very affordable also,but if you go car hunting look at a few of these ,they make excellent cars and give real good service,and look really good also ,and have all the features the more expensive cars have on them,if i was you id at least look at a few,you might find one you like ,good luck i hope this helps.

Most any car will be reliable provided that you take care of it.



Just don't fall for the Honda lies.... people say that Hondas (and thus Acuras) are extra reliable, but it isn't true... they're no more reliable than Fords or Chevys.... they're just owned by a demographic that actually minds the service intervals recommended by the manufacturers....



Toyotas are really the only japanese car that have earned their reputation... but the celica is something of an exception... it's one of the less reliable in their (former) lineup... that's whey you don't see very many around, and they don't sell them anymore...



The eclipse could be good, as long as it's newer than abt. 2000. The Mustang could be good as long as it's newer than abt. 1996...



The zx2... well.. maybe not... it's lower in the product line, so it gets short changed...



Basically just buy a car that feels/looks/sounds/drives as though it has been properly cared for, and then be good about having regular maintenance done on it.

Dont listen to the lovers of japanese cars, because they dont know crap on whats reliable. You want to see reliability, then stick with Ford and dump on the jap cars. Its all about how the car was maintained and how well you take care of it. Japanese car makers are recalling all kinds of stuff, and check the hondas, toyotas, ect.. in the repair section, and look at all the problems they are having. Keep it in america!!, and tell all the ones who knock american cars to get a clue and quit watching so many of those bullcrap commercials. I could invent a car and wait for all the suckers to fall for my make belive reliability stats also. You cant beat a Ford so buy that and wave as you drive by the over seas cars as you go by.
