How long do I have to return a used car?

I bought a used car about 4 months ago. I have had little cosmetic thing wrong but recently I have had to have the driver side window fixed and now there is a water leak that is not covered on my warranty. Can I take it back?

YOU CANNOT EVER RETURN A CAR. unless there is a lemon law and as far as that you still can only bring it to the department of motor vehicle and they will handle it from there. but NO. sorry there is no return law available , that law was put in place for IN HOME SALESMEN. you silicate the dealer they don't solicit you.

when you say certified is it the manufacturers certification, if so bring it to another dealer and they should fix it, however if its a independent certification, its pretty much only going to cove a power-train which is engine and transmission. but that being said the repair sounds like just the weather stripping doesn't cost a lot to repair, you can even do it yourself for under 50.00 if there is more to it than take it back to the dealer and demand them to fix it or you are going to take your problem to the department of motor vehicles. they will actually shut down a dealer for not doing the repairs that keep the vehicle safe and secure.

No. By warranty, I'm guessing you mean an extended service warranty, which only covers major repairs like engine, transmission, etc.?



When you buy a used car, you also buy any existing and future problems with the car, it's not like buying a blouse at Walmart that you can return and get your money back. Where is the water leaking? Where the window was repaired? Take it back to the shop that did the work and tell them it leaks.

No. You have no right to return a motor vehicle. Not 4 months, not 30 days, not 72 hours, nothing. People often are misled into believing they can return a car. Some dealers will allow a return if the paperwork has not been processed but not from compliance with the law, merely for good community relations. Trade it in on something better.

No! You don't have a right of return on any car purchase unless your contract says so. Read your contract. If it says nothing about a right of return then you have none at all once you take delivery and drive it off the lot.



There is NO right of rescission in any of the 50 states, DC or at the Federal level. It's a widely held misconception that you automatically get 3 or 5 or 30 or whatever number of days to unwind a car deal but there is NO truth to it at all.

You have NO time to return the car. You paid the cash, the car is yours. Lemon laws don't apply to used cars. You should have had the car checked out by a mechanic BEFORE you handed over the money. From your comments, I bet you didn't even get the title to the car, which means you have the car but don't legally own it. Kiss your money goodbye.

The only way you could ever take a car back would be if there was a state law that enforces it. Here in michigan there is no "write of recision" law, there are some states it exists, but generally it would only give you 3 days. You bought a used car, used cars have problems some times, its not the dealers fault as i doubt they would knowingly sell you a problem. Dealers do not like or need any added grief to there day. It may have just started.

Are you serious? If so, I feel bad for you being so ignorant. You can't return ANYTHING after 4 months, let alone a car!!! CARS ARE NOT RETURNABLE-THERE IS NO 3 DAY CANCELLATION PERIOD IN ANY STATE FOR CARS! This question must get asked 10 times a day by people who weren't smart enough to get their cars inspected before signing the paperwork.

Check your paperwork and the auto seller's policy, but I can't imagine that you can just return it. You can't even take a roll of paper towels back to Target after 90 days.

In California there is a "NO COOLING OFF", meaning you cannot just decide you don't want the car any more. This year how ever there is paperwork to sign to BUY, this option. if you didn't purchase this option, the dealer does not have to buy the unit back.
