Question:
When a car passes the NCT is it always given the same amount of time before it needs to be tested again?

What I mean is if the car is in perfect working order does it's NCT expire later than a car which has passed the test but is not perfect.
I'm looking at buying a used car and some cars which are advertised as "just passed NCT" seem to have earlier NCT expiration dates than others.

its a bit strange the nct is 2 years but its two years from the last expiry date

eg if the ars test expired yesterday the test will last untill 5-7-09

if the cars test expired 1 year and one month ago you only get one month of test validity

if the test is over 2 years it will begin from the 2 year aniversary of the lats expiration date.

**** me aint that confusin. sorry its as simple as i could make it

its really irish government style though

4. How do I know when my car is due to be tested?

All cars should be tested before the anniversary date of first registration of the car in the country of origin. There is no link with motor tax or insurance expiry date.

PLEASE NOTE: NCTS can issue your certificate up to six months early for a first time NCT and three months early for subsequent NCT tests. In other words, if your car was first registered in July and you are coming for your first NCT, you can have it tested up to 6 months early in January and your certificate will still expire on the anniversary of registration 2 years later. Your certificate is then valid for 2 years and 6 months.

If a NCT is the same as a MOT here in the UK it will last a year regardless of whether the car was "perfect" or not.
