based on your experience and both 2009 models...

-performance (turning, power, etc.)

-upkeep (insurance, mpg, etc.)

-reliability (any breakdowns after ... miles?, expensive parts?)

-comfort and feel

Both seem like they have a great reputation.

both are great fun and handle very well, but at the limits the Miata MX-5 is more confident, easier to control and gives your more confidence.

the Mini is agile but when really pushed hard, it feels uncomfortable.

the Mini is more like a super go cart and the miata a true sports car.

if your very tall driving with the mazda's top up can be uncomfortable and rear visibility is limited.

on long drives the Mini does seem a bit choppy especially on bridges and uneven pavement

-performance (turning, power, etc.)

in straight line, mini cooper S hands down. More torque, more power, Mini will outrun the miata in the straight

Cornering, miata hands down. Light weight, rear wheel drive, double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension. This combination screams for more corners. Look on SCCA autoX results to give you an idea how fast the MX-5 is compare to Mini Cooper S. (C stock car vs G stock car)

-upkeep (insurance, mpg, etc.)

convertibles may be more expensive to insure depending on where you live. The possibility of someone slashing your top may raise the insurance rate.

fuel consumptions should be pretty close in real life situation and largely depends on driving habit (numbers posted are not a good representation of realistic consumption). They are both relatively light and have fairly efficient engine.

-reliability (any breakdowns after ... miles?, expensive parts?)

Both cars are relatively new. Miata/MX-5 are known to be reliable machine that last for a long time before something needs to be repair. They are simple and easy to work on.

I do not have much personal experience with the mini cooper S, but the earlier ones do have some reliability issues that should be fixed by the 2009 models

-comfort and feel

The miata is a very comfy car for a convertible unless you are really tall (6ft plus) I'm 5' 10" and therez still plenty of room behind the seat. it is hard to compare comfort between the two because one's too firm may be someone else's too soft. Go test drive them both to get a good answer out of this question.

and finally, FEEL! I dare say Mini is no where near the MX-5 in terms of feel. You know exactly what the car is doing in an MX-5, you tell it exactly what you want to do and it does it! the car communicate very well with the driver. Go take one out for an extensive test drive. The feel is nearly impossible to be describe by words. Best to feel it ;)

The Mazda MX-5(a.ok.a. Miata) is Mazda's maximum good motor vehicle and they are many times happening for lasting an really very lengthy time period. properly over 2 hundred,000 miles and 10 years. Mazda parts are a touch extra expensive than parts for different jap autos. The Mazda MX-5 is really relaxing to stress. that is a properly balanced RWD light-weight events motor vehicle and handles like a race motor vehicle. 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and a suitable p.c. restricted to 130mph. The Mini Cooper has decrease back seats and a more advantageous trunk, yet very small decrease back seats and the trunk continues to be considered very small. The Mini Cooper is likewise extra helpful on gasoline, even though it calls for proper class gasoline. and they are not outstanding commonly having electric powered complications. they're expensive to maintain or fix, yet in addition they deal with o.k.. this may be drivable in snow because of the undeniable fact that is FWD, not like the RWD Mazda. The Mini is somewhat extra tender and quiet. With an extra 50HP, both one in all those autos might want to be very speedy and both have sufficient parts for enhancing to make an extra 50HP or extra. i might want to get the Mazda.
