Upon speaking to someone in the garage, they said dealers probably have their car price 2grand up then the normal price to compensate for this. I should perhaps go in without my car first, get them to reduce price on car, then next day tell them i want to exchange it for my old car....
Can anyone also recommend dealers who offer this trade...

It's no rumour, the car has to be 10 years or over to qualify for that scheme. That said, there is nothing stopping you from part exchanging it for a nearly new model. Especially since most cars lose at least £2k just for leaving the forecourt!
