The Mustang does not have better performance than the MazdaSpeed3.

The Mazda will beat a V6 Mustang in almost every performance test you can run especially if those tests involve turning left or right.

The Mazda is a better car all the way around.

I am going to be getting a new car soon and am considering these two as options. The Mustang (with performance package) definitely has better performance and surprisingly better gas mileage and doesn't require premium. However, it will end up being probably 2k more initially and on top of that...

McCoy would have been right if you didn't specifically ask about the 2011 Mustang.

This is about the only post where I agree with most of what the Raven says (except the last sentence).

The 2011 Mustang V-6 is a 3.7L engine with 305 horsepower and will go 0-60 in 5.1 seconds.

The 2010 MazdaSpeed 3 is a 2.0L Turbo with 263 horsepower and wil go 0-60 in 5.4 seconds.

Both start around 24K.

The advantages to the MazdaSpeed are it's functionality (4 door hatchback) and its resale value.

The advantages to the Mustang are it's fuel economy, the fact that it doesn't require premium and it's a downright cool car.

Winter driving is a wash unless you replace the stock tires on the MS3. Even though the MS3 is a front wheel drive car, the stock tires are terrible in the snow.

Many believe the 2011 Mustang is the first car in history that is a true sports car with a 6 cylinder engine. Add the fact that you can get 30+ mpg highway, and it's downright amazing.

You seem smart enough to know that neither of these cars is a bad choice and you should be happy with either one.

I absolutely love people that dog on Mustangs. The Mazdaspeed 3 is a nice car but has nothing on the 11 Mustang. Performance wise, the Mustang will outperform the Mazdaspeed in almost every test except maybe handling. I wouldn't buy a Mazdaspeed unless it was AWD like the Evo and STI. Lets conclude:

300HP/30 MPG RWD

vs

260 HP/25 MPG FWD

HMMM, I'll take the extra horses

i would go for the mazdaspeed 3, Well those are good choices, but the mazdaspeed 3 is more cheaper than the mustang is around 24 thousands including taxes and dealer fees, i went to a dealer in florida and that was the price of the mazdaspeed 3. and the mustang is around 25 thousands including taxes but it is just the base V6, and the basic sucks, i dont like cloth seats .Also i prefer the mazdaspeed 3 because the car is assembly in japan . so thats better than american cars, but the good thing of mustang that maintenance is cheaper, the pieces of the car are cheap, but the mazda will last longer.

the mazda has a little poor gas mileage because of the turbo. and the turbo is good for run in the track etc also the mazda is for 5 ppl and has better visibility than mustang. also you can consider the camaro v6 312 hp would be a better choice.

I've got a 2011 V6 Mustang and I love it.

However, I am a little surprised at how accepting everyone is of this 30+ mpg that Ford says the stang gets.

Let me be clear about one thing- the stock V6 does NOT get 5.1 0-60 at the same time it gets 30+ mpg. The stock V6 has a 2.73 rear end ratio as opposed to the track pack [or optional standalone stronger rear end ratio] of 3.31.

The track pack basically mimics the GT suspension and so has slightly better handling characteristics than the V6, but only someone who is really in tune with a rear wheel drive car will ever be able to tell the difference. And again, on the street, if you drive sanely you will never test the limits unless you are taking an on or off ramp at speed. The V6 suspension is that good [drove it on a racetrack up north here in Ontario].

I think if more people were to drive the V6, they would be more than pleasantly surprised with how far Ford has progressed with the engine.

I rented a Mazda 3 out west, [non turbo, lot less powerful], and with the front end tug on heavy acceleration with front wheel drive, the feel of the car is entirely different to the V6. The Acura CL V6 I traded in on the stang was the 260 hp model with about 240 lbft of torque and it had torque steer, even with traction control, so I imagine the Mazdaspeed will as well. Oh and by the way, I recently rented a Mustang GT with the ~ 400 hp engine, for a few days in Nova Scotia and brother, is that a powerful ride.

If you really are serious about either car, then for sure take a test drive and like mentioned elsewhere, don't forget about the WRX for comparison driving.

Good luck... both cars are nice in their own way.

In addition to the $2,000 more, you'll lose at least 20% of either car's value in the first year to depreciation.

Plus a lot in 2nd & 3rd years.

Those $thousands could be put to better use.

At far as rwd being more fun, check w/ the Subaru WRX crowd, they're awd.

I would recommend getting a Mazdaspeed 3.
