Question:
How can I search for an in-stock GM vehicle without being limited to just my local dealerships? I want to search hundreds of miles at once.?

*I realize I can enter hundreds of different zip codes, conducting hundreds of individual searches. It's a tedious nightmare that way.
*I want to use an actual GM-owned website, not a third party site.
*I don't want to "ask my local dealer" to search for me. I understand if the profit for is great enough for him, he might consent to take measures to bring a distant vehicle to me. Frankly, I'm just not interested in inviting him into the deal to act as middleman.
Most other car makers (that I've checked) make it far easier to find a vehicle for purchase. You'd think GM would actually WANT you to be able to find a vehicle you'd like to purchase, instead of blocking your search at every turn.
It's sort of bizarre to me that I'll might end up buying a Chrysler product, due to the fact that I'm able to locate their available vehicles with ease.
Nissan apparently understands my way of thinking too, and they make it easy.
I qualify for the GM employee discount, but GM sets up so many roadblocks to the discovery process, that part of me wants them to lose my business as a direct result.
For what it's worth, the last new vehicle I bought (the Toyota Tacoma I'm currently driving), I located out-of-state myself, then went and bought it there. So I really will gladly buy from a distant dealership.

I suspect there's a way. In fact, I almost have deja vu of finding a way, and then forgetting the secret.
Thanks for any help!

If you're using any GM make website, all you need to do is change the zip code in your search.

well if you find specific vehicle at your local dealership why go hundreds of miles. remember you might not find what you want or don't want in a specific vehicle since they package certain options together with some options you don't want. a dealer could help but if its hundreds of miles away they will want a good down payment to get it for you

Do you think that GM wants to bend over backwards, to break even on an employee discount deal? No. They don't care if they lose your business, as they'll make it up in the 30%-40% of the vehicles they slate for for fleet sales. Your car doesn't matter to them. GM wants to link people up with the closest dealers, to eliminate people like you, who want to travel 1000 miles for a car, and to eliminate people who want to do 900 mile dealer trades. There is no secret. Use what's available to you, or don't. There's no other choices.
