Jaguar used to be pretty crapy cars that look good. Now with the technology and Ford motor company taking over their production there has been a steady improvement on them for the best. The reason they always rate low on been recomended is that truthfully people who test drive them are Old and all they know is how crapy foreign cars used to be and how good they are now, already been bias towards Luxury domestic vehicles. Would a yound guy drive a Jag of course if they could afford it. The people that do get to drive them I dont think they complain at all, the ones that own them I mean. If you like the car buy it, take it for a test drive and check out all the positives of it. Dont let megazines or people that only get to drive them once tell you a whole history about everysingle model without actually owning one. One thing is for sure that if you are getting into an expensive vehicle keep in mind that maintenance is also expensive. Good luck and I hope you buy what you like......

Jaguar, in general, has been suffering from poor quality since Ford Motor Co. bought them out. You will want to check if your Jag model has a steel frame or a new aluminum frame -- as most body shops are not trained to fix aluminum frame cars yet. I do know that Jag trains its body shop for the aluminum frame, but if you needed to take it to a non-Jag body shop, that could cause problems. According to the 2006 Consumer Reports buying guide, the Jag X series was not recommended for 02 and 03, and just ranked as 'average' in 04. Good luck.

Binary options let users trade in currency pairs and stocks for various predetermined time-periods, minimal of which is 30 seconds. Executing trades is straightforward. The system uses user-friendly interfaces, which even an 8 years old kid, can operate without having to read any instructions. But winning trades is Not easy.

Binary trading is advertised as the only genuine system that lets users earn preposterous amounts of money in ridiculously short period of time. Advertisers try to implicate as if you can make $350 every 60 seconds; if it was true then binary trading would truly be an astonishing business.

However, does it make any sense? Can every trader make tons of money in binary trading? Who is actually paying all the money or the profit to traders?

The first challenge is finding a trustworthy binary broker; secondly, you need to find a binary trading strategy, which you can use to make profits consistently. Without an effective trading strategy, there is no way you can make money in this business.

Learning a profitable trading strategy is possible, You should watch this presentation video https://tr.im/16635

Penny stocks are loosely categorized companies with share prices of below $5 and with market caps of under $200 million. They are sometimes referred to as "the slot machines of the equity market" because of the money involved. There may be a good place for penny stocks in the portfolio of an experienced, advanced investor, however, if you follow this guide you will learn the most efficient strategies https://tr.im/e3f14

A common misconception is that you will have to be a financial and business expert in order to successfully trade binary options. However, this is not true at all. Learn here https://tr.im/MuSaf

Perhaps it’s true when it comes to traditional stocks trading but definitely not true in the case of binaries. You don’t have to be an expert to predict the movement of certain assets.

Car Review - Summary

Jaguar XK Series Coupe

TARGET PRICE: £54,300

PRICE: £59,000

4.2 300bhp V8 XK8

The V8 engine sounds fabulous and is a strong performer. However because the car puts its power to the road so efficiently and handles so smoothly, it nevers feels as if you are going that quickly.

It ticks all the boxes... touch-screen sat-nav, Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone connectivity, aluminium or wood trim and all manner of options not available to previous Jag owners

FOR

The Jaguar XK has GT refinement, sports car sharpness, great looks. It is also roomier and more modern than old model.

AGAINST

Thirsty when pushed, which restricts its range on a tank of petrol. The XK can also feel short of pull.

XK Series Coupe 4.2 XKR 2dr £67,495

ON THE ROAD

Performance

There's a 300bhp 4.2-litre V8 and a 400bhp supercharged version will follow, both driving through a six-speed automatic gearbox with three shift program options. The standard engine can feel short of pull, but that's just because of the effortless way it goes about its work and the brilliance of the chassis.

Ride & handling

The XK rides like a grand tourer, even on the optional 19- or 20-inch wheels, but it changes direction and grips the road like a sports car when you press on. It's firm, but nicely damped, and the optional active suspension gives superb control. The steering weights up nicely in bends and the brakes are excellent.

Refinement

You'll love the V8 gurgle and growl, though it disappears when cruising. Less welcome is the tyre noise on coarse roads. The automatic gearchanges are smooth, though you notice them a bit more when braking hard with the gearbox in its sport setting.

Ownership | In the cabin | Back to top

OWNERSHIP

Buying & owning

This is a £60,000 car and it has running costs to match. So, whether bought privately or as a company car, it will cost you for the privilege of ownership – but then you wouldn't even be contemplating it if you couldn't afford it. Depreciation losses over three years could be as much as £30,000.

Quality & reliability

Jaguar's quality and reliability have both been impressive in recent years, and the XK is nicely built from fine materials, with wood or leather dash trim options. The launch cars had a few uneven panel gaps we'd like to see straightened out on customer cars.

Safety & security

The XK has a pyrotechnically triggered bonnet lid, which pops up to protect pedestrians in the event of a crash. It's the only way Jaguar could retain a sleek, low nose while providing decent protection to people on foot. The expected active and passive safety features are all present and correct, and Jaguar security is usually very good.

On the road | In the cabin | Back to top

IN THE CABIN

Behind the wheel

The snug intimacy of the old XK has been retained, but there's much more room now, and a far more modern feel to the cabin. You can have an aluminium dash instead of a wooden one, as well as door cappings, and most of the 21st-century options available in rivals. The coupe offers a good all-round view.

Space & practicality

Nominally, the XK is a two-plus-two, but it would be optimistic to try to get anyone bigger than a small child in the rear. There's less chance of rubbing shoulders with your front passenger now, though, and the boot is big even in the convertible. The coupe has a hatch back.

Equipment

Leather, satellite-navigation, a six-CD in-dash changer, keyless starting, 10-way electrically adjustable heated seats, Bluetooth phone connectivity, dual-zone climate control, an active cruise control that helps prevent nose-to-tail shunts and stability control are standard, but you'll probably want to add at least active suspension damping from the extensive options list.

Great

Gripes

Coupe or convertible? Choices, choices…

Um…we're trying to think of another gripe

Nope, lost it… we'll get back you on this one

Drive

You are driving a large sports tourer in the grand tradition of 'We've almost run out of France, my darling, shall we just keep going through Spain?'.

Reliability

It's a new launch, so time will tell, but Jaguar have a fine reputation for reliability and trustworthiness.

Inside

The picture of refinement, to the point where you start saying things like 'aah, sublime', to yourself in a voice like Margot out of the Good Life. A real pleasure.

Space

You will only get a couple of shorties in the back, but upfront you will be in luxury's lap, so who cares? Unusually, the boot is a great size, even if you go for the convertible.

Safety

The bonnet pops up to minimise pedestrian injuries on impact. This sophisticated 'Plebs-B-Gone*' system is just one of many impressive safety features . (*Our words, not Jag's, natch)

Standards and extras

We love the 10 way electric seating, and there are lots of other extras boxes to tick. ooh, have one of everything

MODEL REVIEWS, SPECS & PRICES

In the X-type Saloon range you can choose between 14 models - 5 petrol engines and 9 diesels

The table below lists each model and What Car? Target Price

ON THE ROAD

Performance

Jaguar’s compact executive offers two V6 petrols and two four-cylinder turbodiesels. The 2.5 and 3.0 petrol engines are sweet and swift, but rather thirsty with it. The 128bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel isn’t quick, but there’s a new 153bhp 2.2-litre diesel to take care of that. Both are very refined.

Ride & handling

The X-type uses a chassis based on the Ford Mondeo’s, with the 2.5 and 3.0 cars getting four-wheel drive, and ride and handling are superb. Even the front-wheel-drive models perform well, although not when the road is wet and the traction control is switched off.

Refinement

Both the petrol and diesel engines are so quiet at speed that they make the wind and road noise seem more pronounced. There is some shunt from the four-wheel-drive powertrain when crawling in traffic and shifting between lower gears. The gearshift is smooth and precise, but the clutch on the petrol cars feels rather wooden.

Ownership | In the cabin | Back to top

OWNERSHIP

Buying & owning

A very reasonable price tag and fair residual values make the X-type great value. Leasing costs are reasonably low, too. However, the petrol engines are comparatively thirsty, with high carbon dioxide emissions and company car tax liability. The turbodiesels are much better propositions.

Quality & reliability

Jaguar has now established a reputation for reliability, and although this is a new car, many of its mechanical elements are already proven. New cars will come with a three-year/unlimited-mileage warranty. However, the quality of materials used in the cabin is not up to the standards set by Audi.

Safety & security

Superb safety equipment includes intelligent front airbags, which consider not only the severity of a crash, but also the seat position and the weight of the person sitting in it before inflating. Our attack testers beat the X-type’s comprehensive security measures and broke in in under 90 seconds, although they couldn’t drive the car away.

On the road | In the cabin | Back to top

IN THE CABIN

Behind the wheel

Typical Jaguar wood and leather adorn the X-type’s cabin, yet a more modern feel has been introduced. There is ample adjustment for the driver’s seat and steering wheel, and the switches are logically placed and easy to use.

Space & practicality

The X-type’s cabin is reasonably roomy; its rear seat comfortably accommodates a third passenger, although the swooping roofline means there’s less headroom than in some rivals. There is plenty of useful oddments space around the cabin, too. However, although the boot is large and has a wide opening, it is too shallow and its irregular shape limits its load-carrying ability.

Equipment

The equipment list is lengthy, and includes leather and a CD player on all, but there are some strange omissions. For example, air-conditioning rather than climate control is fitted on some models. An automatic gearbox can be specified on all petrol models. S trim has been introduced, adding £3210 worth of luxury equipment for £1000 more than base trim.

I have an X Type 2.5 Sport that I bought from my local Jaguar dealer with 5000 miles on the clock.

Previouly I owned a string of BMWs including an M3 and a 328 and I find the driving experience in the X type compares very well. In fact I just love it! Clearly it's power doesn't compare to the M3 but I love the combination of good handling with an excellent ride.

There is something distinctive about the stlying, the dash and the engine note which gives it a very Jaguar character and that appels strongly too. BMs seem a bit bland by comparison.

In 15000 miles I have had no issues with reliabitity and dealer service has been good. Sure it costs more than for the equivalent Mondeo but it is not a shock after BMW costs.

I drive often in the Alps and the four wheel drive is very reassuring. The extra weight sometimes makes itself felt in fuel consumption and acceleration but on balance I find the 4wd a big plus.

Bad points? There are a few. The brakes are less powerful than you would expect, the headlight beams are weak and it seems absurd to have manually winding rear windows (I suppose they had to keep the latter to justify the substantial price hike to the SE version) Also fuel economy is only so so - I get between 23 and 27 mpg.

Good points: I love the look of the car, the smooth engine, decent gearbox, ride/handling combination, sports seats, fit and finish and the helpful dealer network.

I feel like my peach is turning into a lemon! - Do I get shut now? Please advise.

I've had my babe of a car (second hand via dealer) for 2 weeks. I only have to breathe on the beautiful ivory leather and it marks.

I've had this coating put onto the paint work to protect it, but i can still see those horrible circular marks in the paint work from where its been cleaned with a gritty sponge..Have they put the coating on at all??

The general drive is easy, but not too impressed on the kick down of the auto gear box. I want power now, not when the car decides its gunna pump it out.

The run out over the weekend was a real test of its performance and agility. Not impressed at all. The number of gear changes it had to go through I felt was excessive compared to my old, wonderful and much loved Rover 75 2.5 auto which handled the same stretch of road with more agression and ease.

I was driving in the Lakes over the weekend and the whining noise started just off the M6 about 40 minutes into the drive whenever there was a movement to the left, anyone camped at Wasdale head awoken by a screeching & whinning sound at 4am on saturday last - Mucho apologies as that was me in my Jag. Later that day the noise kicked in again.

I purchased this car in early September 2005. It was one of the first Euro IV models. On some days, the engine would have an annoying diesel knock even when warmed up. The dealership described it as agricultural. Further investigation by the dealer found that the quieter Jaguars were Euro III level cars - the dealer spoke to Jaguar who told them that the Euro IV emission level cars are significantly noisier than Euro III level cars.

The Jaguar engineers decided to replace the injectors. The car was slightly quieter when warm, but noisier when cold. I was told that Jaguar was investigating the fault. After many weeks, I was told it was the emission level that Jaguar had to meet and there was nothing they could do - I would have to put up with the annoying, noisy engine.

After communicating with the CEO at Jaguar, I was informed there is nothing they can do to quieten the engine without affecting the emission levels (the law prohibits this). I worked out that the fault shows itself when the outside temperature is below approximately 16C - the colder it goes, the worse it gets.

If the ambient temperature is above 16C, the engine is quieter. In the temperatures we are seeing at present of 28-30C at present the car is silent and a joy to drive.

If you have not driven your Euro IV level 2.0D in winter temperatures, prepare to be disappointed this winter. If your engine becomes noisy, you're on your own. Jaguar, from the CEO down, will not help.

My accountant has a Jaguar X-Type 2.5 V6 Sport Automatic.

He bought it himself as it is was his company car in 2003 and bought the car brand new on a 53 reg. It is black with black leather interior.

The car looks fantastic and I have driven it too - and it is fantastic.

However, I found that when you put the foot down hard there's nothing, then bang - you're off. It's similar to the Rover 75 2.5 V6 which he also had before the Jag. The gear box is great but not responsive enough for me.

I have had an Audi A8. I have a Jaguar XJR and also a Range Rover 4.4 Vogue.

My normal car is a Mondeo 2.5 V6 Zetec S, so I was anticipating the Jaguar to be similar, but with a little more prestige and style.

My first impressions are that after the Mondeo, the cabin seems cramped. Much of the equipment I take for granted in the Ford is missing (air-conditioning instead of climate control, no rear electric windows, no heated screen, no cruise control and so on).

Build quality didn't look great, either - I immediately noticed the steering wheel had a slight offset, made obvious by a greater proportion of the aluminium spoke showing on the right than on the left. That's very irritating when it's right in front of you!

The model I was using had an auto gearbox, not something I am used to, but I have recently driven a Rover 75 with an automatic gearbox and can only say the Jaguar's gearbox scared me. Pulling away from roundabouts, there was a distinct lag before the car picked up, something I didn't experience with the Rover.

I started to question if the 2.0-litre unit is just too small for the car, but I have driven 1.8-litre Vauxhall Vectra and Ford Mondeos and never felt a problem, so it's maybe just a combination of a small engine and the auto box that makes it feel so bad.

Summing up, if it's all about status, the Jag is probably a decent buy for the badge snob, but for equipment, comfort and driving pleasure, I wouldn't trade the Mondeo for it!

I've owned my 2.0d Sport for nearly a year now having covered around 10,000 miles. It was 18 months old when I bought it and had 54,000 miles on the clock, but drives like a new car.

Mine smoked a bit, but I had the EGR valve replaced recently and the dealership cleared out the inlet and air filter, as well as running an engine management upgrade (disc 42), which has dramatically reduced the smoke. It runs smoother now, and all the work was done under warranty.

It's very refined, and is quick for a 2.0 diesel car. It rides and handles well, is much nicer that the VW Passat diesel I ran before and has lots more character than BMWs and Audis I've driven.

I would award it five stars, but I've had an XJ before and that was a hard act to follow - I can't wait to acquire an XJ TDi. To anyone contemplating a BMW/Audi/VW, try an X-Type diesel - you'll be surprised.

There have only been two drawbacks - the keys have to be reprogrammed regularly and the bonnet catches are a nightmare, sometimes taking 30-40 goes to close. Today my bonnet flew up while driving at 50mph and has damaged itself.

The garage has has to deal with this fault at every service - has anyone else had this problem, as they are claiming mine is a one-off?

Ive had an X-Type 2.5 Sport for two years now, and after 44,000 miles it still is a pleasure to look at and to drive. Mine is finished in Jaguar Racing Green with large wheels, carbon dash and no chrome.

The two problems the car has given me have been sorted out by the dealer ultra-fast. Considering the running gear is Mondeo stock (no issue with that), the servicing is very expensive - some 60% higher than Ford would charge to service what is the same running gear.

The fuel consumption on the 2.5 is higher by 8mpg compared to my ST220 3.0-litre Mondeo. Is it down to the AWD on the Jag? Anyway, compared to a similar-size BMW, Audi or Mercedes, the Jaguar has bags more class and feel-good factor than the three overpriced German vehicles put together.

If only more people would support this British car instead of following each other to the German dealerships, Jaguar might have a fighting chance to continue building cars of quality here in the UK.

My previous car, before my divorce, was a BMW M3. The new diesel Jaguar was an economical replacement and I was not expecting too much from it - how wrong I was.

It's easy and quick to drive, and with handling that was exeptional with its 18-inch rims. It's comfortable, refined and less than half the price of the BMW. Overtaking with performance with that fine mid-range was unexpected, and braking from any speed was secure and much less harsh than the BMW.

Unlike my BMW I did not have a single, unplanned, garage visit and during its services, my local garage made me feel very valued. Yes, I have driven this car hard (very hard), with a global average of 41.6mpg over 60,000 miles in less than two years (high 40s is availiable without too much trouble).

I have gained a healthy respect for this car over distance and time that I didn't ever expect. My only slight concern are residual values. We will see, but by all account, they are holding far better than the petrol models.

All in all, it's a very underated car. Now, if only they dropped in that TDV6?

I have now owned the estate car for three months and 5500 miles, having traded in an Audi A4 Avant. The new car is better to drive, much more comfortable, and has more space.

The only problem I experience is excessive exhaust smoke on acceleration, particularly after a period in slow-moving traffic. The dealership has so far had two goes at fixing this without success.

Is this a known fault? How many other drivers have experienced this? Will it get worse?

I have a Jaguar and a BMW and can testify that both are great cars, but the build quality on the Jaguar is much higher than on the BMW. I suspect that this is due to the BMW being manufactured in the USA.

I am very pleased with the X-type, and am considering that I'll upgrade to an S-type for my next car. The diesel engine is responsive and quiet and gives around 46mpg, which I consider good - that translates to filling up every 530 miles.

My only complaint is that the dealers in Berkshire are awful. After buying the car I never heard from the dealer again - I expected at least a follow-up call to see if everything was alright and then a reminder for the first service - but nothing. I won't be buying the S-type from them.

Faced with the choice of Jaguar vs BMW, I'd go for Jaguar without hesitation, and for me Mercedes aren't in the same league.

I have just traded my 2000 BMW 328i Touring for a low-mileage 2005 Jaguar X-Type 2.0d Estate. Delivery is in a few days. I have driven fast German cars, specially BMWs all my life.

When I test drove the Jag, I was seduced not by the power (less than the BMW, but respectable for the driving conditions of today), but also by its interior, the comfort, the surprisingly quiet engine, torque, its lines, roominess and that special British Racing Green (metallic) colour.

It is more luxurious than the BMW, although the BMW is fully loaded but it has that German stark practicality. I was seduced and signed the contract.

However, I have been reading all sorts of articles about the X-Type and started to regret my decision. Issues of quality and reliability worry me.

Can anyone who has driven the X-Type 2.0 D for several years or, say 60,000 miles, tell me about their experience, please?

My car is in fact the estate version. I have had it for 16 months and 35,000 miles.

It is as reliable as any other recent car and as well made as BMW, Volkswagen, Audi and so on. It has a different, and better, interior to the typical black plastic Euro/German layout.

However, I am not confident that its handling will remain taught and responsive as the miles progress - it feels softer already. My biggest gripe is the lack of feel through the steering wheel in the wet. There's only one choice of tyre; Pirelli P Zeros, and they're not good in the wet, which means you go straight on at roundabouts.

Also, there's premature incidence of the ABS, even at very low speeds on perfectly normal wet tarmac.

I own a late 2003 top-of-the-range diesel, purchased for motorway work. Having just done 60,000 comfortable miles, the car being a pleasure to drive, it achieves in excess of 40,pg at 70mph. I found small changes in cruise control too slow to respond, often resorting to using the pedal to avoid embarrassment.

At the 60,000 mile service, I expected to replace my first set of brake pads, so I was particularly surprised that new discs were also required on the front. I expected to pay for the pads not the discs, but guess what? Discs are not covered on the warranty and, at Jaguar rates, this is going to cost a fortune. I would like to hear from Jaguar on this subject or anyone else who might have faced the same.

The biggest worry I have is that, in my opinion and having slid across a minir-oundabout as a result, the ABS came in far too early. I appreciate this could be my error, however I drive a MR2 sports 2.0i and a Golf TD GTI, neither of which make we anywhere near as twitchy when things get tight.

Despite having had more than my fair share of silly faults, (I am now on first name terms with my dealer's after-sales manager) all of which eventually got sorted out under warranty, I have no confidence that the running costs are not going to escalate when the warranty runs out.

Still, I am committed in supporting the British worker, so I suppose I will have to take Mr Clarkson's advice and upgrade to the S-type diesel.

I have had this car since December 2005, and although I was apprehensive because I had had BMWs for over six years, I took the plunge.

Even now I'm not really sure, because the Jag really seems to suffer from poor reviews compared to BMW. However, to try and put it into perspective and forget the reviews, I still look forward to getting in the car or making an excuse to take it out.

It might not be as nimble as a 3 Series, but it's not bad - the 2.2D has loads of pull and sometimes it is difficult to keep it to 70mph on the motorway. Maybe some switchgear is not up to German standards, but if I was given the option now to change to a BMW or an Audi, I do not think that I would take it.

I have now had the car for nearly three months. It has done 12,500 miles and has had its first service costing £295 at Hadfields in Sheffield.

I am still in love with it and I would never swap her. I have been told that an automatic X-type will never be produced because it can't fit into the body, so I will have to stick to the X-type manual.

I got a suprise with the company car tax - it was not much different from the BMW that I had previously.

This is the is by far the most fun and enjoyable car I've owned. It looks fantastic (although not everyone will like it) and it's a great car to drive - very responsive and there's power when needed.

Inside the car feels luxurious and the attention to detail is apparent. With AWD and Sports suspension, the car has virtually no noticeable body roll and is incredibly quiet. You will occasionaly need to watch your rev counter for changes. This car makes me feel good about owning it every time I see it.

Before buying this car I compared it with a BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, Volvo S70/S80, Saab Aero and Audi A4. The Jaguar was by far the winner.

I do have one complaint, however. Until recently, they did not fit a CD player/changer or Bluetooth/Handsfree as standard. So if you want to play CDs or use your phone, you will need to pay for Jaguar to fit these options (the sound system is not compatabile with non-Jaguar models). For both these options you are looking at around £1000 (fitted).

If you are going to buy one of these and are not constrained by a company car scheme then get the petrol one, at least a 2.5 with a manual gearbox. I honestly don't see the point in buying a car like this with an automatic gearbox - if you are over 55, buy a Honda.

This car is everything Jaguar is about: effortless performance, a high quailty luxury finish for a reasonable price.

I bought my 2.0D Sport new for nearly £26k in October 2003 following a 10-year dedication to BMWs.

I was impressed by the smooth and powerful engine and the stunning looks.

However the servicing costs have been ridiculous and the quality of trim very poor. My leather seats have been replaced once from premature wear and are failing again.

Although I paid for a Winter pack I find that my car does not ven tell me when the temperature is near freezing outside and because I did not want climate control I don't have an outside temperature display.. The engine now sounds like a transit van at 42,000 miles and it has been in the dealership for three weeks. They cannot even get me a loan car.....

Economy has been high thirties only since I had it despite careful motorway driving.

So, nice looks and image but that's about it.

BMW next time.

I am contemplating the purchase of a new 2.2D SE or maybe Sovereign later this year. I am rather concerned having read existing owner reviews on the site - I have owned Mazda cars since 1981 and accept reliability as a standard feature.

Apart from reliability issues highlighted by existing owners, I would certainly like to see an automtic transmission on the 2.2-litre diesel, and alumnium boot and bonnet lids as introduced on the S-Type. This move would help the consumption figures for the petrol models and would not be an impossible feature for Jaguar to introduce on the X-Type range.

Jaguar could even remodel the boot lid at the same time, as in the XJ series, and increase the capacity of the boot. Selfishly, I would then like to see a 'warm' red colour paint introduced for the X-Type.

If all these issues were taken up by Jaguar, then I would be 95% eager to buy - but please, Jaguar, resolve your reliability issues. You are selling an expensive and luxurious car to a discerning market. Do not be indifferent to your customers. Give them what they deserve and give them the reliability that Jaguar are charging a high premium for.

Come on Jag, resolve it, get it right - reign supreme within the small executive car class - please.

This was definitely the most disappointing car that I have ever owned. It does have it's good points - I think it's a great looking car, it handles really well and is very economical. It's also very well equipped.

BUT - I really suspect the quality of the car - both keys failed on this car. This is obviously a very common fault - the dealer knew exactly what the problem was & made it clear that it could easily go again.

The service costs for what is after all a Mondeo are a joke - £350 for an oil change is ludicrous.

The car was desperately uncomfortable, with the seats offering no lumbar support. The ventilation system was designed by a moron - it cannot deliver fresh air to the screen & vents whilst not directing it at your feet.

Rattles were increasingly an everyday part of driving this car.

Never again - this is a great car if you care about image above all else, but - isn't it interesting how the reader reviews are less than the "What Car" review ratings. Now look at any of the less 'prestigous' larger models & compare their reader review scores with the "What Car" review scores...

The electrics are also poor - sometimes the visual display reports that there is no phone fitted and it occasionally has locked up on the screen.

Sometimes I can't open the boot unless I reset the alarm. Also, the interior rattles, with the noise coming from the air vents.

For a sport model, the suspension is soft. I would never buy one again.

I have owned this 2.5 SE automatic version since October 1 2005. I really love everything about this car, except the fuel consumption. I average 24mpg on a motoway run, or 21 mpg around town - quite different from the Jaguar sales brochure!

As I only do about 5,000 miles a year, I am prepared to live with this, although if fuel goes to £1 a litre, I will have to have a rethink. I would have brought the 2.2-litre diesel, but they don't supply it in automatic form and it's not four-wheel drive, both of which I wanted. There really is nothing better than this car (apart from the 3.0-litre) as far as I'm concerned.

Although I understand that it's all down to taste, the interior is good - better than BMW, but perhaps not as well put together as an Audi. The combination of wood and leather really makes you feel special. The comfort is good, the roadholding excellent (although you would expect this for a four-wheel drive version) and, although the boot is shallow, it still gobbles up the weekly shopping handsomely.

I would recommend this car to anyone who is in the market for a medium executive saloon, who is not to bothered with fuel consumption. I wish Jaguar had addressed this issue and raised it into the 30-35mpg area, though.

If you have the choice get the Sovereign, geat gizmos, and classy interior. I just love the feel of the wood/leather steering wheel.

The economy is great +40mpg in city driving, the road holding is generally good, occasionally twitchy.

In Midnight Black it looks superb, and collegues view it as a REAL Jaguar - chrome and all!

If you enjoy your driving comforts, with a bit of poke on acceleration, you'll be well settled.

I love the interior - extremely comfortable with good firm seats and the driving position is excellent. Ignore the comments about this not being a real Jag. It looks like one and it drives like one. Every day I get in it, I cant help but feel just that little bit special.

Ive had several Mercedes, BMW's and this car beats them hands down.If you are looking for something just that little bit different to the usual German brigade - the Jag's a winner.

This was very disappointing after having driven the 2.0D. The automatic gearbox seemed unsure when to change on inclines and, it was reluctant to react. It cost me £40 on fuel from Surrey to Manchester (start-stop traffic in central London destroyed any chances of a 'satisfactory' mpg figure).

It looks mean in black though and does attract looks, although this is superficial. The seats could be a lot more supportive (the squab in particular) and some of the fittings are cheap and outmoded. Ashtrays that snap shut with springclips don't impress at all. It's a shame though as with a diesel manual option it is a decent car.

My car is the 3.0 Sport manual. It has been virtually trouble-free, the only problem being some slight play in the steering rack while parking (which annoyingly the dealer failed to fix at a recent service).

It is a delight to drive - smooth and agile. It's fast, but no rocket-ship - it's supposed to do 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds but I'd be surprised if it's actually that quick.

In my opinion, it matches or surpasses the two BMW 3 Series cars I have most recently owned, with the exception of the slightly inferior road holding at times (although this is certainly nothing to be concerned about). The air-con is also very noisy when it has to work hard to bring the cabin temperature down.

I am still pleasantly surprised by the comments of other people, who invariably percieve the Jaguar as being a class above the 3 Series and are always surprised that cost prices are comparable.

My only disappointment has been with the sevice and attention to detail at the dealership.

This was compounded over the last few weeks by the complete failure of the remote door lock/security controls, which took five weeks to sort out.

I have moved from a 7 Series BMW, which I have had as main car for six years.

The Jag is a different animal. I would say that they are both excellent value for money! But the BMW was nearly twice the price of the X-type Jag.

The Jag is far nicer inside, depending on your taste (but leather and wood in the Jag are A1...) equally comfortable, with slighly more road noise (possibly due to a quiter engine).

I got 22mpg in the 3.0-litre BMW and I get minimum 28mpg in the 2.5 Jag.

The Jag boot is wide and deep but shallow. It's nicely lined, with a good finish and carpet.

Performance is everything I want in a saloon car. It is very fast indeed if you want it, although not quite approaching my son's VW V6's scary acceleration.

The diesel engine performance still impresses after 7000 hard miles on the M25 and nearby routes, regularly returning 40+ mpg.

The engine is so smooth when cruising that the cruise control becomes invaluable at keeping the speed down. The surge in acceleration from about 2200rpm in top gear is enough to jeopardize your licence if caution is not exercised. In lower gears it makes overtaking slower moving trafic such as lorries and caravans just that little bit less hazardous.

The ride comfort on the larger alloy wheels may not be to everyone's taste but it is a fair trade-off for excellent handling on all but the bumpiest roads when it can be thrown off line by a mid corner bump.

There seems to be more room in the rear of the car than other rivals except maybe the MB but that car doesn't seem to have the character of the Jag. I would suggest that anyone buying one has the headlamp washer option fitted as in wet conditions the design of the car seems to ensure that the headlights get dirty and stay dirty.

We are now on gearbox number three and they have also replaced a set of timing chains. To add to this, the passenger door jams shut frequently and there is an irritating rattle from behind the dashboard.

For a 2.0-litre the performance / fuel economy mix isn’t brilliant compared to its ‘flat mate’ the Mondeo but there are a lot worse out there. I find the handling and balance of the sport spot on making it a very relaxed but an enjoyable car to drive and the interior has much more of a quality feel than a mainstream saloon. After a lot of miles I still like taking the car out.

My only gripe is that the clutch seemed an afterthought making getting the right driving position an art; close enough to get the clutch in is far too near, but set the seat in a comfortable position and the clutch is a real strain, plus there’s no room to rest for you foot to the left of the pedal.
