I drive a mazda miata right now and it is giving me issues so I am in the market for a new vehicle. A dealer close by has a 2004 Chevy cobalt ss with 113,000 miles and is asking $6,888. From what the gentlemen said the vehicle had only one owner, and was garage kept (I have not looked at the car fax yet). All emissions are good l, and brakes are good. The only repair that needs to be done are new tires and the still have another 10,000 miles. It seems to be a decent car for a good price based on my research. If anyone has ever owned a cobalt at or near 2004 is it reliable?

In the past I would say the Cobalt is a great car but with GM's problems with that car I'd not buy it. I had a 2010 model and loved it. I had to drive a lot for work so it had well over 120 thousand miles and no issues with it. With the GM recalls I traded in for a Honda in fear. Rash decision I know but I cannot afford to die because if faulty ignitions, steering and a whole bunch of crap. Either fix your Miata if possible or look at something else preferably non GM.

It is like this-

My Miata is still on the road.

Those who bought the Cobalt SS that I know of either traded them off (high maintenance costs), totaled them (single car accidents) or had the engine fail.

It will more then likely cost less to fix the Miata right then just the deal alone will loose you. In a year or less the odds are you will wish you had your Miata back!

FORGE THAT KOREAN MADE COBALT< and repair the MIATA! The MIATA will last EASILY to 300k miles if YOU CHANGE YOUR WAYS! HAve ALL FLUIDS changed by MAZDA< including the BRAKE FLUID! They will give you a WARRANTY! WHAt other "ISSUES" do you have with it! There are TOTALLY FUN< sporty and ECONOMICAL TO OWN! The COBALT is going to be HISTORY VERY SOON< and GM has MORE LAWSUITS than ENGINEERS! <

The Chevrolet Cobalt was one of the least reliable and poor quality automobiles to come out of Detroit in the last decade. Keep the Mazda or look elsewhere.

Haven't you heard of the ignition problems GM is getting screwed over?

It's a good car to modify and race(especially the supercharged models). But reliability wise it's probably gonna be the same as your miata(problems).

A person wanted to trade me his 05 Cobalt SS for my WRX. He then gave me a list of repairs he had done over the past year. It was a long list ranging from head gaskets to hoses. Defiantly not a problem free car.

No, it's really not. There are major problems with the ignition and other recalls.

It's a fast car, looks good on paper, but is cheaply made and not very nice in real life.

Keep the Miata. Fix the "issues" and it will be a better car than a Cobalt.
